Bulila’s Beginnings

Who Is Bulila?

During my travels, particularly while exploring Istanbul, I was struck by the overwhelming presence of mass-produced items. It made me wonder why true craftsmanship was being left behind. I spent countless hours with my friend, Bilal Yilmaz (an interdisciplinary artist based in Istanbul: bilalyilmaz.info), learning why many traditional crafts are disappearing.

And so, the seed of Bulila was planted. It germinated during family travels in Oman, where the name Bulila was born. The name itself pays homage to the two places that reignited my passion for art, craftsmanship, and the preservation thereof: Bul for Istanbul and Lila, inspired by Alila Jabal Akhdar in the Jebel Akhdar mountains.

I’ve been truly fortunate to collaborate with incredible individuals who are deeply passionate about their craft and materials. Their stories inspire us every day. Bulila is more than a company or a brand—it’s a family. I genuinely cherish the artisans I work and collaborate with, and we are continually growing this family to bring you new, authentic pieces for your home.

We hope you’ll join our family and welcome our pieces into your life and home, where they can be treasured and enjoyed for years to come.
