LIMITED-SERIES, CUSTOM-MADE SUZANI / LINEN CUSHIONS

Who said luxury can’t be lived in? Lounge on these precious heirlooms.

It took months to find these quinquagenarian Suzanis and prize them away to create gorgeous cushions. They were traditionally created by women in the villages in Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, for bridal dowries and part of their traditions. Each community or family created distinctive styles and motifs, resulting in a rich diversity of designs. The backing fabric was hand-loomed from silk, linen or cotton, then painstakingly embroidered with threads dyed with plants, roots or insects, depending on the colour required.

Caren spent hours matching each Suzani to the sumptuous, yet hardy linens of the family-run fabric houses of Pierre Frey in France and Design of the Times in Belgium. The cushions were designed to create a piece that shows both ancient traditions and modern fabrics. Then lovingly created with a master tailor, Mustafa, who understood that each cushion is unique and will become part of your home. They are luxurious, but durable and not fussy. Their generous sizes are wonderful for displaying on beds, sofas or tented camps. We made only 35 cushions – get yours today!
