Care Instructions

Straw marquetry is a centuries-old artisanal technique, valued for its natural lustre, precision and delicacy. With thoughtful care, each piece can retain its beauty for many years.

This screen is handcrafted in wood marquetry and finished with beeswax. It should be treated as a delicate artisan furniture piece.

  • Dust gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
  • Keep away from water, steam, damp rooms, and prolonged humidity.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and strong heat, as these may dry or fade the surface.
  • Do not use chemical sprays, alcohol, bleach, abrasive cleaners, or furniture polish.
  • Do not scrub or use rough cloths, as this may damage the marquetry.
  • Wipe marks very gently with a barely damp cloth, then dry immediately.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp objects against the marquetry surface.
  • Handle and move carefully, supporting the frame rather than the decorative panels.
  • Natural variation in wood grain, tone, and hand-cut patterning is part of the character of the piece.
  • To maintain the surface over time, apply a few drops of mineral oil or petroleum jelly to a lint-free cloth and wipe gently across the marquetry. Avoid the edges, as excess moisture or oil may lift the straw fibres.
