Alabaster has been valued for centuries for its soft translucency, natural warmth and ability to hold light. Softer than marble, yet luxurious in character, it can be carved, shaped, polished or left with a more natural surface — making it a beautiful material for interiors, lighting and decorative objects.

Bulila's alabaster pieces are created in Aragón, Spain, a region known for some of the world's most important alabaster deposits. The stone is extracted from local Aragonese quarries, where each block carries subtle variations in tone, veining and transparency.

Mercedes Artal founded Alabastros Aragoneses 30 years ago and has led the workshop ever since, building its reputation on specialist craftsmanship, precise finishing and excellent quality control. It is one of the few workshops in Aragón working directly with this local mineral.

Together with her small female-led team, Mercedes brings specialist knowledge of alabaster into contemporary interiors, producing pieces that combine craftsmanship, material honesty and architectural elegance.

For designers, hotels and collectors, alabaster offers something rare: a natural material with depth, softness and light.


